5 Crafts Anyone Can Do With Zero Experience

You don’t need talent, experience, or a craft room full of supplies to make something you’re proud of.

You need the right project.

These five crafts were chosen specifically for people who have never crafted before. They’re forgiving, fast, and satisfying and every single one can be done with supplies from your local dollar store or Amazon.

1. Painted Flower Pots

Time: 30–45 minutes
Cost: Under $5
Skill level: Zero

Buy a plain terracotta pot from any dollar store. Pick two or three acrylic paint colors you like. Paint stripes, dots, or abstract shapes — there are no rules. Seal it with Mod Podge when dry.

The result looks intentional no matter what you do. Abstract art is impossible to do wrong.

What you need:

  • Terracotta pot
  • Acrylic paint (2–3 colors)
  • Foam brush
  • Mod Podge (optional but recommended)

2. Washi Tape Bookmarks

Time: 15 minutes
Cost: Under $8
Skill level: Zero

Cut a strip of cardstock into a bookmark shape. Layer strips of washi tape across it in different patterns. Trim the edges, punch a hole at the top, and thread a piece of ribbon or twine through it.

These make great gifts and are genuinely impossible to mess up. The more random the tape placement, the better it looks.

What you need:

  • Cardstock
  • Washi tape (assorted)
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon or twine

3. Decoupage Picture Frame

Time: 45–60 minutes
Cost: Under $10
Skill level: Zero

Buy a plain wooden frame from the dollar store. Tear or cut pieces of tissue paper, scrapbook paper, or old book pages into small pieces. Brush Mod Podge onto the frame, layer your paper pieces on top, then brush another coat of Mod Podge over everything to seal it.

The layered, slightly wrinkled look is the whole aesthetic. The messier the better.

What you need:

  • Plain wooden frame
  • Tissue paper or scrapbook paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam brush

4. Rock Garden Markers

Time: 30 minutes
Cost: Under $5
Skill level: Zero

Find smooth flat rocks outside or buy a bag at a craft store. Paint the base color you want. Once dry, use a paint pen or thin brush to write herb or plant names on each one. Seal with outdoor Mod Podge if they’ll be used outside.

These are practical, personal, and look beautiful in any garden or windowsill herb display.

What you need:

  • Smooth flat rocks
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint pen or thin brush
  • Outdoor Mod Podge (optional)

5. Paper Tassel Garland

Time: 20–30 minutes
Cost: Under $5
Skill level: Zero

Cut strips of tissue paper or crepe paper. Fold each strip in half, then cut fringe along the open end without cutting all the way through. Roll the folded end into a tassel shape and secure with a small piece of tape. Thread tassels onto a piece of twine or string and hang anywhere.

These look like they came from a party supply store and cost almost nothing to make.

What you need:

  • Tissue paper or crepe paper
  • Scissors
  • Twine or string
  • Tape
